Commercial utilities scam alert

The city of Boerne has received notification from some of our commercial utility customers that they’ve gotten calls from "American Electric Power."

The scammers said they’re changing out the electric meters to smart meters. Customers were also told the meters were going to be changed out during business hours and if they want to reschedule for a time outside of the business hours there is a fee involved. Customers were then instructed to get a pay card and or gift card and send them the info from those cards.

Please be aware the City of Boerne will never ask for payment with a gift card and all work done to the City of Boerne utility system is done by City of Boerne employees.

If you ever have a question about any call you receive for utility work in the City of Boerne you can call 830-249-9511 during normal business hours or 830-248-1633 after hours, weekends and holidays.
